Event Title: Allegria Vocal Ensemble
Sunday, 7 February 2010
Allegria Vocal Ensemble
"Midwinter Celebration with Bach"
The Allegria Vocal Ensemble is proud to present its exciting concert, Midwinter Celebration with Bach, on Sunday, February 7th, 2010 at 7:00 pm, at St. Thomas-the-Apostle Anglican Church in Ottawa. Audiences will be treated to four of Bach's thrilling motets sung by eight soloists led by Montreal guest conductor, John Wiens. Renowned Ottawa pianist Frédéric Lacroix accompanies the singers and performs some of Bach's most beloved piano works.

"While usually performed by full choirs, some musicologists maintain Bach motets may have been intended for individual voices" says soprano Dayna Lamothe. "Each of us having previously experienced the greatness of these wonderful works in larger ensembles, we wished to experiment with other, lighter textures, in a more personal, intimate setting by limiting the voices to one per part".

The Allegria Vocal Ensemble, founded in 2007 by singers Kathleen Radke, Dayna Lamothe and Jean-Sébastien Kennedy, performs a variety of chamber music and opera concerts, often joined by other professional musicians. Sought-after in the Ottawa and Montreal area for the quality and versatility of their performances, Allegria strives to convey the passion of its members for music in a convivial atmosphere. It has recently performed in Opera in the Valley, a fundraising series for the Renfrew Victoria Hospital and is happy to perform again this summer in its next concert, Opera goes to the movies.
